Friday Fictioneers – Life Is A Lemon…

(Author’s Note: Do you know how sore a person can get if they have not actually gone to a gym and exercised properly? Well, I’m that guy. Arms are about as sore as can be. But, you know what? It’s worth it. In 6 months, in 1 year, I will be further in shape. This is good for a writer. And, further, Happy Independence Day. To all veterans who fought for our freedom: We cannot owe you enough. There is not enough in this world to give that makes up for the years you sacrificed. Take honor in what you have done. Here’s the fictioneers!)

Life Is A Lemon…

Gasps so loud, they silenced everything else.

The protesters outside the conference center couldn’t believe what they saw.

A college-aged woman had walked through their line, stood in front, and took off her leg.

Cherry strands of hair glided across her face as a breeze came through.

She stood there, hands stretched to the side, on one leg.

For 5 minutes, no one moved. No one did anything. They just stood and stared.

She smiled, looking around.

“I think y’all got the point,” she said, as she put her leg back on.

She put her pant leg down, and walked away.

Friday Fictioneers – The Road Not Taken

(Author’s note: With the final part of my Korean experience finally complete, I now focus on the next phase of life. This means that Music and Fiction will likely get an upgrade/update in some way. Once I get settled back in a routine, this should happen. Until then, it’s Fictioneers and other stories I plan to write. Hope you enjoy today’s offering!)

The Road Not Taken

by Miles H. Rost

“Daddy, do you ever wish you did something different?”

Paul looked down at his daughter, 9 years old and ever inquisitive.

“There are one or two things, sweetie. But, then you wouldn’t be here. That’s not a wish I would make.”

She put her arms around his waist, and hugged tightly.

“Do you regret losing your arm?”

He looked down at his sweetie, and sadly smiled.

“My arm saved 4 men in Iraq, sweetie. I would not trade that, no.”

Paul swept his arm under her and picked her up.

“Honey, my arm brought me home. No regrets.”

“I love you, Daddy!”

Bend Me Shape Me

by Miles H. Rost

Mark walked into the chiropractor’s office. The doc smiled at him, as he closed the door.

“How can we help you today?”

“Doctor, I think my back is starting to go. I keep waking up and not being able to get out of bed.”

“I think I got just the thing. It’ll bend you, shape you, do anything you want of it.”

They walked to the back room, where there was a bed with no sides. It looked like the shape of an I.

“What’s this?”

“It’s something new I came up with. It stretches you in different ways. I call it the I-rack!”

Mark ran out the door, never to return.

Friday Fictioneers – Second Chances

(Author’s Note: Nothing major to report. Just working like I normally do. Enjoy today’s fictioneers, because I think it’s a good one.)

Second Chances

by Miles H. Rost

“It’s been nearly 15 years, Rachel.”

“Since?”

“Since I’ve been on a date like this.”

“The last time you were on a rooftop, watching fireworks and drinking mojitos?”

Charles looked at Rachel with a wan smile.

Rachel’s eyes crinkled, looking deep into his face.

They both scooted closer to each other, her head resting on his shoulder.

“The difference this time is that I’m not in the middle of a war zone.”

“Which zone?”

“Kandahar.”

Rachel sighed, her displeasure obvious.

“Does it bother you?”

“Nah. I just miss Kandahar. But, I know I’m safe with my big Marine.”

He smiled, watching the fireworks go off.

Friday Fictioneers – Perfectly Good Guitar

Author’s Note: So, after a 6 month hiatus due to school and issues related, I finally have started posting stories again. My goal is to post one 1,000+ word story every week (likely on Sunday KST), and let people have at it. So, Sunday, I posted the first of a series that I plan to work on over this next year. Warriors of Honor is a series that details the life of five young ladies and how they deal with dual lives and faith. Two of the stories have been printed before on this blog, and they are going to be edited and released soon. However, if you like, you can read the first and main character of our series, The Fire Sniper. It is available for you to look over and enjoy. And don’t forget to comment! Now…onto the Fictioneers!

A Perfectly Good Guitar

by Miles H. Rost

“You have to make a choice. The guitar,” she said, pointing at the 1971 Les Paul Custom in the chair, “or me.”

“Corinne, how long have I been in music?” Mike asked.

“23 years.”

“How long have we known each other.”

“10 years.”

“How long have I had that guitar?”

“20 years.”

“Yep. A gift from Richie. Now, how did I meet you?”

“Through Richie.”

“That’s right. Now, how long do you think I will have this guitar for? And how long would I have you?”

She blinked at him, unsure of what to do.

He picked up and smashed the guitar on the ground.

“I had the guitar for 20 years. I’ll have you for the rest of my life. C’mere.”
