Friday Fictioneers – The Bug

(Author’s Note: Getting things ready for a new 1000+ word story for the blog. Thanks to Lisa Young, my colleague here in Korea, who is also doing a story as a two-person challenge. Shapes will be abounding. In the meantime, here’s your Fictioneers.)

The Bug

“Daisy, I told you that I’m just going to sit up here until someone notices me and screams. Then I’ll fly off.”
“Trent, realize that you’re a mantis wasp. People will be afraid, but you’re going to get smacked.”
“Bah. I’m big and people don’t smack big things around. They just run like crazy and we get our jollies off of them.”
“You’re gonna get killed. I’m not watching this. I’m outta here.”
“But wait, Daisy…”

Trent looked out at the people in the temple.

“Oh well, looks like I’ll just have to…”

Crunching was the last sound he heard.

Desert Oasis

by Miles H. Rost

“So this is where you ended up, eh?”
“Yeah. Who would have thought that I would be the heir to the Sultanate.”

Mark O’Connor and Rahim Zaharia walked down the desert path within the walled town.

“10 years ago, we were pulling pranks on Melinda Clouse. And now you’re the Sultan of Watoomba.”
“8 years after becoming, I’m still not used to it. There are so many different things I have to do. Sometimes, I need an oasis from this desert.”
“Ever thought about coming back to the USA?”

Rahim shook his head.

“The people need me here. I am their oasis in this unforgiving desert.”

Friday Fictioneers – I Am The One And Only

Author’s Note: Very busy this week due to Australia stuff. Hence why no posts since last weekend. Got some downtime coming up, meaning more posts. 6 more weeks, and I’ll be able to post a lot more. Here’s your offering for today!

I Am The One And Only

“Hey! Whitey! You look like you’re burning up!”

“C.H., just leave me alone.”

“But why? You are in trouble. you need help.”

“You’re the reason why this has happened!”

“I didn’t tell my tenants to come to you and start you on fire.”

“No, but I’m sure you did something to get them to do it.”

“Well, I did tell you that you should get yourself checked out in case something did happen. Gotta keep your health in good shape.”

“Yeah, and now your advice is going to kill me.”

“I did tell you that I’m the one and only on this block. Should have listened to me!”
