(Author’s statement: My apologies. Last week’s miss of the Friday Fictioneers was due to having back to back medical treatments and getting home VERY late. So I will try to make up for it this week. Anyhow, here’s today’s fictioneers:)

Josephine
by Miles H. Rost
High tide. Sitting on the beach.
The water comes around, bathing the lower half of my body.
Josephine is next to me.
I look down and smile. She loves the ocean, and everything that comes with it. Always did.
She grew up by the ocean, even took jobs on the fishing boats in her teens. Boys called her “Tuna”.
She set the record for largest ahi tuna caught in the province. She was a senior in high school then.
I stand, and pick Josephine up. I open the top, and pour her out.
Josephine, I send you all my love.
Pour her out?! What did she die of? I’m so morbid. That’s always my first question.
She loved the ocean, she loved fishing. While it’s not explicitly said, it’s likely that she died out on a fishing vessel.
Nice twist
I needed that twist for everything to work. Especially with the song the way it is.
Nice story, Miles. Great twist at the end.
Thank Chris Rea. His music provided the inspiration.
Oh, that’s a very sad twist! Unexpected, which makes it all the more effective.
A sad sad story.
Quite.
Who or what is Josephine? Looks like she.is a bait to catch fish?
Josephine was his daughter. He’s pouring her ashed out to sea, to where she made her livelihood.
Lovely memories, very sad twist, well done
It’s the music, lemme tell ya. It’s the music.
Ugh, that’s a creepy twist, but well done.
Thank you. As creepy as it may have been, it did show a side of a father taking care of his daughter’s final request.
Oh no. That’s very sad. His memories of her show a girl full of life and potential. I’m hoping the ‘pouring out’ is a whole lifetime after the memories, not just a short time. A very moving story.
He’s returning her back to where she felt at home. It was likely months after the funeral.
