Bird Is The Word
by Miles H. Rost
“You. You are a birdbrain!”
Ornithological expert Phil Kilanowski looked up from his desk.
“You are a birdbrain. That’s all you have on your mind!” his wife, Melanie, cried out. She had a crow on each shoulder.
“Oh! You made friends with Phobos and Deimos! Excellent! This is great for my study on the social habits of crows!”
“And the osprey in the living room?”
“Oh, he’ll be back at the university next week.”
“No, he’ll be back at the university tonight. Along with all others. Or your dinner will taste like chicken.”
Phil’s face went white.
The missus doesn’t share his passion, not that I blame her.
My sister is the one who loves birds. I’m just the guy who aspires to be the crazy cat dude.
Hope the innocent birds don’t get it! Liked the new definition of birdbrain 🙂
New definition? That’s been the definition in my family for generations! XD
Some things should perhaps be discussed before trouble starts…
A man and his passion are soon to be quenched.
Heeheehee! Good for Melanie 🙂
Phil should know never to cross the other person who lives in the house.
He seems to have his priorities wrong! Excellent.

That’s what happens when your passion overtakes the true passion!
Loved it! I never thought I’d hear the words “your dinner will taste like chicken” used as a threat! .Great choice of names for the crows, Phobos and Deimos.
Blame Sailor Moon for the names (P & D are the names of Sailor Mars’s crows). And yes, it is a great threat because of how many things that taste like chicken.
Bring on the chicken!
Yum yum! :O 😀
Loved the dialogue in this story. It built nicely to a great punch line.
It had to happen!
The ultimate ultimatum.😁
Om nom nom!
Ah! naming the birds after Mars’ moons. I like it and so will my son. Good one, Miles.
Thanks! Blame Sailor Moon for the names.
Great story. People say it’s healthy for couples to have different interests, but it doesn’t always work out. I liked the choice of song, although I can’t hear it now without thinking of Family Guy (and smiling).
Family Guy brought it back to life after it supposedly died.
Ouch… I think that it’s passed the point of discussion. But it could have been snakes.
I wonder: do they all taste like chicken? Thanks!
I am not sure. I have never had to eat crow. XD
🙂 Clever take.
Thanks! Blame a stressful week for it!
That should help set his priorities…. good read.
It should! Hopefully he takes it!
Hi Miles, I really like this, particularly the way you conjure his avian experiments so economically.
Funny! Well done.
