The machinist always worked quietly in the back of the building.
He kept to his work, only coming up to meet people to collect payment.
He was young, good looking, but painfully shy. His bravery shown through when wielding metal and acetylene torches.
He heard a clang up at the front. Grabbing a torch, he creeped up behind large metal sheets, and caught the noisemaker as they were coming around the corner.
“Who are you?” he demanded, looking into the welding mask of the culprit.
The mask went up, revealing a pretty woman’s face.
“I’ve been looking for you, Machinist.”
Oooo, very nice–and I want more, please 🙂
Well, it depends on whether I get enough cash in February to take time off to devote to writing. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, though.
For some reason this reminded me of ‘Flashdance’! 🙂
I can get where that would come in. 80s music, welding, a gal who also is a welder confronting a man only known as “The Machinist”.
Well, that’s got me wondering! Nice one.

There’s likely a resolution down the line. Not sure how.
A match made over torches.
Acetylene Love? XD
Sounds like a match made in heaven… it always helps to have a common interest.
Especially if that common interest is heating metal to superhot temperatures and molding it together with other metal pieces.
If Mohammed won t go to the mountain then the lady must come looking for Moh…er…the machinist. Or whatever. Nice you found a good tale hidden back there.
Mohammed was never a welder. XD
Yes, and the real Mohammed found four wives, too, I understand, so didn’t have trouble getting out and about. 🙂
Was he secretly carrying a torch for her?
I enjoyed the positive tone of this story.
I don’t think he even knew she existed…
Ah! at lat a feel god story. loved this no end.
This was my last week before a 10 day vacation. It was going to be that way!
Nicely done
Thank you! I will admit that it took a bit to pull it outta me.
