Goin’ Fishing
by Miles H. Rost
“Well, that’s the last of ’em.”
“Last of what?”
“The ice fishers. They got their shed off the lake, just in time.”
“Well, what do we do with them gone?”
“We welcome the new anglers in. But, first, we need to make sure the area is cleaned. The ice storm took a lot of branches down.”
“We’re not as young as we used to be.”
“And yet the work never gets done.”
“We’ve spent the last 57 years here.”
“If I had a choice, we’d spend 57 more.”
“huh. 57 more springs. I don’t know if I could do it.”
Great conversation. One is optimistic, the other tired. That’s how we age.
We are who we are. Thank you for stopping by!
Both a life of satisfaction and one of regret comes through in this gentle story.
Not sure about regret, but maybe tiredness… a little wariness from the world. Regardless, a good point. Thanks for stopping by!
A good conversation. Well done.
Thank you!
I really enjoyed the dialogue between the two friends. That’s life, sometimes our significant other is up and we are down, then vice-versa. Great story!
Just like the scales of the world: Sometimes we hold things heavier than others. Thanks for stopping in!
A good dialogue that makes you feel like you’re there.
Setting the atmosphere is very important! Thanks for stopping in!
A great sense of weariness in this piece with their constant battle against the elements, well told
A little glimpse into the life of a Minnesotan. HA! Thanks for stopping in!
