Piano In The Dark
by Miles H. Rost
Shirley plopped her bag on the table.
Coming home from a hard day of learning at school, she was going to be happy when she finally could watch “Sailor Moon”. It had been a while since she had a day to herself.
The sky grew dark all day, and it was nearly pitch black outside. She turned on the TV and not even a minute in, she heard the familiar buzz of klaxons and red screens.
She buzzed into the basement and took shelter and waited.
And waited.
The lights went out.
A steady roar sounded.
Plink. Plink.
Cacophony.
Like the way the tensions builds.
A powerful story. The sailor moon detail really made me like the char and then boom. Well done
This built up and up and then – wow! Excellent
My 100 words!
I slice of real life in one hundred words. Well done
How quickly a normal day can change from calm to calamity. Well built up
Neat writing, well constructed piece.
Great writing!
Good piece, full of atmosphere
You lure us in with a domestic scene of winding down after a stressful day only to hit us with the sad realities of life’s routines during wartime. Great story.
